London drivers are no strangers to tyre problems. Potholes, kerbs, road debris, and the sheer volume of miles covered in the capital mean that tyres take a beating. When something goes wrong, a puncture, a blowout, or a slow leak that has finally given up, the appeal of a mobile tyre fitter is obvious. No towing. No waiting room. Someone comes to you, wherever you are, and sorts it on the spot.
But before you call, you want to know what it is going to cost. And that is a completely fair question. Mobile tyre fitting cost in London varies more than most people realise, depending on the tyre brand you choose, the size of your wheels, whether it is a standard booking or an emergency call-out, and the time of day you need the service.
This guide breaks it all down clearly, so you know exactly what you are paying for, what fair pricing looks like, and where the hidden costs sometimes creep in.
How Mobile Tyre Fitting Works
Before diving into pricing, it helps to understand what the service actually involves. A mobile tyre fitter operates from a fully equipped van containing tyres in a wide range of sizes, a portable tyre changer, a wheel balancing machine, and all the tools needed to carry out a professional, safe tyre replacement at any location.
When you call, you give your vehicle details and location. The fitter arrives typically within 30 to 60 minutes for a standard booking, faster for emergencies, assesses the damage, and either repairs the existing tyre if it qualifies for a safe repair, or fits a new one. The wheel is balanced, the tyre pressure is set correctly, and you are ready to drive.
The entire process generally takes between 20 and 45 minutes per tyre, and in most cases you do not need to be anywhere near a garage.
What Affects Mobile Tyre Price in London?
Understanding the factors that drive mobile tyre price in London helps you compare quotes intelligently rather than just going with the cheapest option you find.
- Tyre Brand and Grade
This is the single biggest variable in your final bill. Tyres fall into three broad categories:
- Budget tyres: brands such as Radar, Hifly, or Runway. Typically the most affordable option, suitable for lower-mileage city driving. Expect to pay roughly £50 to £80 per tyre fitted for a standard 16 to 17-inch size.
- Mid-range tyres: brands including Hankook, Kumho, Falken, and Nexen. A solid middle ground offering good performance and longevity. Fitted prices generally range from £80 to £130 per tyre depending on size.
- Premium tyres: Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental, Pirelli, Goodyear. These are the tyres fitted as standard to most new cars and offer the best performance, handling, and wet-weather braking. Fitted prices in London typically range from £120 to £250 or more per tyre, with large alloy sizes pushing costs higher.
- Tyre Size
A compact city car running on 15-inch wheels costs noticeably less to tyre than an SUV or performance car on 20-inch low-profile rubber. Larger tyres cost more to manufacture, and fitting low-profile tyres requires more care and skill, which is reflected in the price.
- Standard Booking vs Emergency Call-Out
This is where tyre fitting call out cost becomes a distinct conversation. A standard daytime booking where you schedule a fitter to come to your home or workplace, will typically carry either a small call-out charge (usually £10 to £25) or no call-out fee at all, with the cost absorbed into the tyre price.
An emergency call-out, where you are stranded at the roadside or need a fitter within the hour outside of normal hours, will almost always carry a higher call-out charge. Depending on the time and provider, this can range from £25 to £75 or more on top of the tyre cost.
- Time of Day
Daytime weekday bookings attract the most competitive pricing. Evening, weekend, and overnight call-outs, the 24/7 services that London’s round-the-clock lifestyle genuinely demands, will typically cost more to reflect the premium of out-of-hours availability. This is standard practice across the industry and worth factoring in if your tyre issue is not a true emergency.
- Number of Tyres
If you need two or four tyres replaced in one visit, many mobile fitters offer a reduced per-tyre price or waive the call-out fee entirely. It is always worth asking when you call.
A Realistic Price Guide for Mobile Tyre Fitting in London
To give you a practical frame of reference, here is what fair, transparent mobile tyre fitting cost in London looks like across common vehicle types:
| Vehicle Type | Tyre Size | Budget (fitted) | Mid-Range (fitted) | Premium (fitted) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small hatchback | 185/65 R15 | £55–£70 | £80–£105 | £120–£150 |
| Family saloon / estate | 205/55 R16 | £65–£85 | £90–£120 | £130–£180 |
| SUV / crossover | 235/60 R18 | £80–£110 | £115–£150 | £160–£230 |
| Performance / low-profile | 245/35 R19 | £95–£130 | £130–£175 | £190–£280+ |
These figures include fitting and balancing. Call-out fees, where applied, are on top.
Emergency Tyre Fitting in London, What Does It Actually Cost?
For emergency tyre fitting London price, expect to pay a premium over standard booking rates — but the premium is more reasonable than many drivers fear.
A typical emergency call-out from a reputable London mobile tyre service during unsociable hours might look like this:
- Call-out / emergency response fee: £30 to £60
- Mid-range tyre (205/55 R16) supplied and fitted: £95 to £120
- Total: approximately £125 to £180
For context, a traditional breakdown provider recovering your vehicle to a garage, followed by a next-day tyre replacement, could easily cost more once recovery fees and garage fitting charges are factored in, without the convenience of being sorted on the spot at 1am.
The key with emergency tyre fitting is to choose a provider that is upfront about pricing before the fitter arrives. Any reputable service will give you a confirmed quote when you call, not surprise you with additional charges once the job is done.
What Should Be Included in the Price?
When you receive a quote for mobile tyre fitting in London, make sure the following are included as standard:
Tyre supply: the cost of the actual tyre itself, in your specified brand and size
Fitting: the physical removal of the old tyre and mounting of the new one
Wheel balancing: essential after every tyre replacement, balancing ensures the wheel spins evenly and prevents vibration, steering wobble, and premature wear. A fitter who does not balance as standard is cutting corners.
Tyre pressure check and inflation: the new tyre should be inflated to the correct PSI for your vehicle before the fitter leaves
Old tyre disposal: responsible disposal of your old tyre should be included. If a fitter charges extra for this or offers to leave the old tyre with you, it is worth querying.
Valve replacement is sometimes charged as a small additional cost, typically £2 to £5 per tyre and is generally recommended when fitting a new tyre, particularly if the valve is more than a year or two old.
How to Get the Best Value From a Mobile Tyre Fitter in London
Get a confirmed quote before anyone arrives. A reputable fitter will happily confirm the total cost: tyre, fitting, balancing, call-out if applicable, over the phone or via message. If a company is vague about pricing, look elsewhere.
Know your tyre size before you call. Your tyre size is printed on the sidewall of your existing tyres in a format like 205/55 R16 91V. Having this ready speeds up the quote and prevents any ambiguity.
Check reviews on Google and Trustpilot. London has dozens of mobile tyre services operating at any given time. Customer reviews are your clearest indicator of reliability, response time, and whether the quoted price matched the final bill.
Ask about tyre brands in stock. A well-stocked mobile fitter will carry options across budget, mid-range, and premium categories. If a fitter only offers one brand at one price point, your choice is limited.
Consider timing if it is not an emergency. If your tyre is flat but the car is parked safely off the road, booking a daytime slot rather than a middle-of-the-night call-out can save you £30 to £60 on call-out fees alone.
Is Mobile Tyre Fitting Worth It in London?
For the vast majority of London drivers, the answer is yes, often emphatically. The convenience of having a trained technician arrive at your home, workplace, or roadside location and carry out a professional tyre replacement without you moving the vehicle is genuinely valuable, particularly in a city where time is at a premium and parking near a tyre garage can be its own ordeal.
When you factor in the time saved, the absence of recovery costs, and the 24/7 availability that traditional garages simply cannot match, the slight premium over a high street tyre centre is, for most people, money very well spent.
Final Word
Mobile tyre fitting cost in London is not one fixed number, it depends on your tyre choice, your vehicle, your timing, and whether you are making an emergency call or a planned booking. But with this guide, you now know what fair pricing looks like, what to ask when you call, and how to avoid being caught off guard by unexpected charges.
Save the number of a trusted mobile tyre service before you need one. Because when you are staring at a flat tyre at 11pm in Croydon or Canary Wharf, knowing exactly who to call and what it will cost is the best kind of preparation there is.
